VOTE: Group’s desperate plea to save Littlehampton’s Windmill

A THEATRE group has penned a heartfelt plea to save the Windmill Entertainment Centre.

Dr Tim Kimber, of TJ Productions – which last week completed a five-night stint at the Windmill’s theatre – has drafted a letter inside the group’s programme for its rendition of Calendar Girls, asking locals to support the site – which could be redeveloped.

In his letter, Dr Kimber said that Arun District Council had taken “flawed” advice from independent consultants.

He argues that to lose the theatre, which has been in the town for decades, would be an act of “cultural vandalism”.

Dr Kimber writes: “The Windmill Theatre is once again under threat. It is run by Inspire Leisure, with a subsidy from Arun District Council of £330,000 per annum, which equates to a little over 4p per week per head of the population for the whole of Arun.

“It’s a much-used and loved facility and is the only theatre support by Arun District Council.

“We live in financially constrained times. The council has a difficult job to do to balance the books.

“We must show it that to allow the Windmill to close would be an act of cultural vandalism, and that it must revisit its priorities.”
