VOTE: Has the change to the Littlehampton Academy brought about the improvements noticed by Ofsted?

EDUCATION inspectors making their first full visit to The Littlehampton Academy (TLA) described the school as “satisfactory”, and making “significant improvements”.

Parents of the school’s 1,653 students were given the Ofsted verdict yesterday (Wednesday) and it has been welcomed by principal Steve Jewell.

He said: “The inspection was a positive experience and the team were very helpful. They confirmed virtually all our judgements and said we were doing the right things to make TLA good.”

Among the progress made by the academy since it replaced Littlehampton Community School two years ago, say the inspectors, is, “most importantly”, the standard of teaching.

“While it is satisfactory overall, more is now good,” said the report.

Areas where the academy could improve, according to the Ofsted report, include a further increase in the proportion of good teaching, a stronger role for “middle” teachers and more opportunities for students to be involved in decision-making, taking on responsibilities and making a positive contribution to the life of their school.
