VOTE: Parking chaos in Angmering

PARKING chaos in the streets around Angmering railway station has come to a head after the last 200 yards of a couple's 120-mile drive home from holiday took three hours.

Double parking in Angmering Way meant that Steve and Gillian Price could not complete the journey until police had the offending vehicle towed away.

West Sussex County Council painted more yellow lines in Angmering Way at the station end following complaints about commuters parking in their road.

However, some residents think the restrictions have made matters worse, resulting in motorists driving further down the narrow road, double parking and blocking driveways.

Narrow gap

Matters came to a head when Mr and Mrs Price arrived back with their caravan from a short stay in Dorset.

"There was room to get a small car through, but not a twin-axle, 26ft long caravan.

"I just had to pull over where I could and stay with the car and caravan, I couldn't leave it.

"They've painted new lines right up at the junction with Station Road, but not further down, so all it does is push the problem further down the road."

"They come down here instead of using the station car park. It's so inconsiderate," said Mr Price.

New lines

Colin Partridge, another Angmering Way resident, said the new yellow lines had made matters worse.

He said: "Most of the time you can only get something like a Smart car through.

"There are several ill and elderly people living down here, and what would happen if they needed an ambulance in an emergency? It just wouldn't be able to get through.

"There's a lot of bad feeling and it's been almost like a riot situation at times."

Towed car

PC Dan Bridger, who attended the incident on Wednesday, August 18, said a Volkswagen Beetle was towed away because it was parked illegally and causing an obstruction.

He appealed to motorists to park considerately or risk having their car towed away and having to pay a fee to release it.
