VOTE Water meters to be fitted to all Littlehampton, Rustington, East Preston and Angmering homes

WATER meters are being fitted to all homes across Littlehampton, Rustington, East Preston and Angmering a year earlier than planned.

The programme to install meters in the 60 per cent of homes – a total of 11,500 – currently with an unmetered supply will now start next month (May).

Southern Water says half of its customers having meters fitted will see their bills drop, but half can expect to pay more, and people will be given help and advice on how to cut their water usage and reduce charges at the same time.

The water company has brought the scheme forward in this area after slipping behind targets elsewhere, as it aims to fit more than half a million meters across Sussex, Hampshire and Kent by 2015, in a long-term programme to protect water supplies under pressure from both climate change and escalating demand.
