Vulnerable teen found safe in Arundel following police manhunt

ARUNDEL was the scene of the wide-spread manhunt last night (Wednesday, April 17), involving a search dog, a police helicopter and around a dozen police officers when a vulnerable girl ran away, threatening to harm herself.

Shortly before 9pm, officers received reports that a 16-year-old girl had left her home address after threatening to seriously harm herself.

An extensive search was undertaken by Sussex Police to find the teen, who a police spokeswoman said was extremely vulnerable due to her age and mental health.

Officers scoured the area and enlisted the assistance of officers from neighbouring areas together with a police dog and the National Police Air Support (NPAS) helicopter.

She was eventually found at 10.30pm by the dog in a nearby park.

A police spokeswoman said: “Due to the youngster’s age and vulnerability, everything possible was done to find her as quickly as possible.

“Fortunately, through the hard work of all those involved in the search, this was achieved and she was found safe and well.”

She added: “There was a lot of police activity in the area at the time and we would like to take this opportunity to thank the public for their patience and assistance throughout the search.”
