'WAIT AND SEE' ON HOMES

Parish councillors are waiting for a reaction from villagers to development proposals before forming a view themselves.

Chairman of Maresfield Parish Council Cllr William King said in a report to a council meeting on Tuesday that there was lack of a clear mandate to seek or reject proposals for further housing so they should be even-handed in looking at any plans that came along.

His comments followed a public meeting where architects, employed by a consortium of landowners, put forward proposals for development of land south of the recreation ground.

'The landowner team told us that it did not have any calculation of the number of houses under consideration and so it is premature, I think, to form a view on this,' said Cllr King.
