Waldron

CHRISTMAS SERVICES: On Sunday 23 December all services will be at St Bartholomew's Cross in Hand. Holy Communion is at 8.00 am with President and Preacher Reverend George Pitcher. Parish Eucharist is at 10.00 am with George presiding and Tim Hough preaching. Nine Lessons and Carols will be at 4.00 pm and will be thoroughly traditional with The Story read from the Bible and lots of opportunity for the congregation to sing the old carols and give it wellie! (So looking forward to that'¦) On Monday, Christmas Eve, there will be a crib service at St Bart's at 4.00 pm and then Midnight Mass will be at All Saints' Waldron, starting at 11.00 pm '“ note the time, and come a bit early to make sure you get a seat. I love that service '“ it feels as if Christmas is properly here and everyone you know has turned up to celebrate the birth of Jesus before going home to put the parcels under the tree and fill the stockings for the children. I know '“ it's a right old mixture of Christian and pagan traditions, but I still love it. Then Christmas Day arrives with Holy Communion at 8.00 am at St Bart's (President and Preacher the Reverend Lucy Murdoch) and Family Christmas Celebration at 10.00 at All Saints' Waldron with George in charge. Happy Christmas everyone!

WATERWORKS: Just as complete exasperation had begun to set in about the closure of Whitehouse Lane for necessary waterworks, it looks as if there is light on the horizon. As I write, the holes are being filled in and tarmacked over. This heralds the departure of the men on Thursday 20 December and the re-opening of the lane as far as Hemmings, which will make life easier for those of us living at the village end of the lane. However, the job isn’t yet completed and the men will return on 3rd January 2019 to finish off.

PUB EVENTS: On Christmas Day the bar will be open from 12.00 midday until 2.00 pm. The pub will be completely closed on Boxing Day, then normal service is resumed until New Year’s Eve when there will be a set menu served in the evening (the menu is now available). On New Year’s Day morning Nick and Alex will be serving their special NYD Brunch, which has become such a popular way to start the New Year, that you will need to book your table – ring 01435 812495. Then on 5 January evening there’s our usual Wassail celebration with East Hoathly Morris men performing and the Winter Solstice Morris and Mummers.
