Mr and Mrs Denness, who now live in Foxhunt Green, met in Five Ashes when he was a trainee plumber and she was working as a kitchen maid. During the Second World War, Mr Denness joined the army while his wife-to-be served on the home front.

The couple have two children, Richard and Jane, five grand children and two great-grand children.

'I would recommend marriage to anyone,' said Mrs Denness. 'It's very comfortable, and lovely to have somebody who belongs to you someone you can rely on, someone you love and someone who loves you.

'He may make me cross from time to time, but I wouldn't change my husband for the world!

'The secret behind making a marriage work for as long as we have is a lot of love, some wonderful children and a bit of dedication, I would say.'
