Walk off the festive lbs in Steyning

PEOPLE will again have the chance to stroll-off some of the festive excess at an organised seasonal walk.

The traditional Steyning Christmas Walk to the South Downs will this year take place on Sunday, December 28, leaving Fletcher's Croft car park, opposite St Andrew's Church, at 10.30am.

The walk is organised by Footprints of Sussex as part of the West Sussex County Council programme of more than 100 winter walks, which take place throughout the county from October through to the end of April.

Keith McKenna, of Footprints, will be leading the walk this year.

The Downs

Mr McKenna said: "We've taken an active part in this walks programme for over 12 years now, and we've had some great fun doing it.

"Everyone tends to think of walking the Downs only in summer but the best attended walk of the year is always this one!"

The six-mile route will take walkers along Mouse Lane, Steyning, and past Wiston House, before heading gently up onto the Downs to join the South Downs Way.

A fairly level walk along the National Trail will lead back to the Steyning Horseshoe and the drop down into the town.

Mince Pies

And there's an added bonus with the Christmas walk, as Keith explained: "We expect to get back around 1.30pm, and we will be laying on mince pies and hot mulled wine in the Steyning Centre for everyone who has taken part in the walk."

Everyone from children to pensioners are welcome, as well as dogs, and there is no need to book '“ simply turn up in Steyning in good time for a prompt start at 10.30am.

The walk is free although an optional 2 contribution towards the hire of the hall at the Steyning Centre and other costs will be appreciated.
