Walk South Downs Way

THE annual South Downs Way Walk starts in Eastbourne on Friday June 10 and the nine day event finishes in the Guildhall in Winchester on Sattrday June 18 with a celebration party.

County cllr Deborah Urquhart said: “Hundreds of people from all over the world have enjoyed this 106 mile walk over the past 32 years.

“June is one of the best months to view the South Downs Way – it’s chosen when orchids such as the Common-Spotted and occasionally the rare Bee Orchid, and butterflies like the Chalk Hill Blue are at their best.”

The walk follows the National Trail and is organised by Footprints of Sussex on behalf of the county council. Each day averages 11 to 12 miles and is taken at the walkers own pace.

Walkers are picked up by coach each day from various points along the south coast, taken to the start of the walk and returned in the afternoon.

The full event costs £198 per person, to include transport each day and the buffet reception in Winchester. For more information contact Keith on 01903 813381 or visit the event website at www.southdownsway.com.
