Walking For Miles

DEVOTED granddad Alan Trussler is preparing to walk 105 miles to raise funds for a charity that is very close to his heart.

Alan's one-year-old grandson, Scott Trussler, suffers from tuberous sclerosis, a little-known genetic disorder for which there is no cure.

Alan, a retired policeman who was based in the Littlehampton area and is hoping friends and former colleagues there will help, will be walking the South Downs Way, from Winchester to Eastbourne, in September to raise funds for the Tuberous Sclerosis Association.

He has already received support from Worthing businesses Woolworths, Southern Water, Connaught Leisure and the Chatsworth Hotel.

Alan, from Maybridge, said: "I am doing it to raise money to go towards research into this condition, which is very rare. Lots of Worthing businesses have given their support, which is good news.

"The walk should take four or five days but I'm confident I'll manage it!"

Because little is known about tuberous sclerosis, any funds that can help research are vital.

The disease gets its name from tumours that grow on the body and symptoms include learning difficulties, epilepsy, autism and heart and renal problems.

It is estimated one in every 6,000 babies are born with the condition and 70 per cent of these are born to families with no medical history of the disease.
