Walking to the Inca Trail

A SPONSORED Dog Walk has raised over £220 for Dogs for the Disabled.

A group of supporters lead by Jane Strickland walked from the Cooden Beach Hotel to Galley Hill and back again, a total of around 11 kilometres.

Jane, a solicitor partner at Donaldson Dunstall Solicitors in Parkhurst Road, said: "It was tough going but we made it! I am certain that the dogs enjoyed themselves too.

"Many thanks once again to my co-walkers and also to everyone who sponsored us and made donations along the way."

In September, Jane leaves for a trek along the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, an Inca site on a mountain ridge in Peru.

Last year the Observer reported the intrepid solictor's efforts to raise 2,900. The money from this walk means she has acheived this goal.

On her website for donations, www.justgiving.com/janestrickland, Jane says: "Hurrah! This means I have now reached my target! However I will carry on fundraising for a little while as I'm enjoying it so much."

Jane also needs to achieve peak physical fitness. In May she completed the three peaks in Yorkshire as part of an ongoing training schedule.

She hopes this will help her complete the trek, which reaches altitudes of 4200 metres through mountainous jungle.

Jane said: "I've chosen Dogs for the Disabled to be my special Charity as they are a smaller Charity and it is only their third hike overseas. They desperately need to raise funds to train puppies to be assistance dogs for disabled people across the UK as there is an ever growing demand."

Anyone interested in sponsoring Jane can donate online via the website or complete a Sponsorship Form at Donaldson Dunstall Solicitors, 48 Parkhurst Road, Bexhill on Sea (Tel 01424 216329).
