A burglar who stole more than £50,000 worth of antique silverware from a house in Cowbeech, near Hailsham, and then went on the run during a trial at Hove Crown Court has been arrested by police in Swanley, Kent.
Jonathan William King, 43, formerly of Southfields, Polegate, committed the burglary on July 1, 2013.
He was standing trial last autumn when he was given bail on November 17 to attend hospital after claiming he had suffered a fall.
However, the next day, King failed to appear and has been on the run ever since.
In his absence, he was convicted and jailed for eight years, and £1,870 that was seized from him when he was originally arrested was ordered to be paid to his victim as compensation.
King, who was known to have connections in Kent, was traced to Swanley and arrested early on Thursday (August 13). He is expected to start his jail sentence immediately.
