Warm welcome awaits at Rustington’s Platinum Club

Rustington Platinum Social club offers activities including Zumba Gold, gentle fitness, board and card games, pamper sessions, music and arts and crafts four days a week, at the Royal Voluntary Service hall behind the Co-operative store in Broadmark Lane.

Everything is geared towards the members’ physical and emotional health and well-being.

The club was started by Annet Ziraba and Thelma Kiwinda, who have both worked in care homes for the elderly and in the community.

“We came across many elderly people who suffer social isolation, loneliness and lack of self-confidence. Many seniors have no close relations nearby and those with relatives or friends still find themselves isolated because they have their own family commitments.

“Many seniors feel they are a burden to society and seem to lose their will to live a happy and meaningful life in their twilight years. It was this awareness and desire to combat this evil that led to the creation of the club,” said Thelma.

In the future, subject to funding, the club hopes to run weekly computer sessions, together with providing help and advice through links with relevant organisations, and also to purchase a van for transport and organised excursions.

Refreshments are served during club sessions, which are on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, from 10am-3pm, Thursdays, 1-3pm, and Fridays, 10am-1pm. Transport can be arranged.
