Warming up for winter with beach clean at Littlehampton

BEACH lovers are being encouraged to head for the sea this weekend, whatever the weather, to join a new clean-up campaign.

Surfers Against Sewage (SAS) is launching its Cold Water Beach Clean initiative to help protect Littlehampton beaches from marine litter all year round volunteer action.

On Sunday (September 15), the Cold Water Beach Clean comes to West Beach and is calling on community volunteers to join the beach clean team from noon–2pm on the beach.

A spokesman for SAS said: “During the coldest months, marine litter accumulates in huge quantities on our coastline, threatening the safety and enjoyment of beaches by surfers, walkers and other sports enthusiasts during the winter months.”

Volunteers can register by emailing [email protected] and on the day can learn more about the threat that marine litter poses and will receive full beach clean equipment before heading out to clean the beach.

All those who sign in will also be entered into a draw to win a Finisterre Etobicoke jacket worth £160.

The scheme is run by SAS in collaboration with the Crown Estate.
