Teams were alerted to a person taken ill on the beach in Peacehaven on Monday (May 25).

After going through the access point where the person’s car had been parked, they found the person and treated them until the ambulance arrived.

They then tried to exit the promenade at Steyning Avenue in Peacehaven but it was blocked by two vehicles parked in front of the gate.

A spokesman said: “One owner came back and advice was given. We had to call the police to attend for the other car. The owners returned as the police were organising a tow truck. Police gave advice to the driver.”

Crews from Newhaven were also called to Brighton Pier where a car was parked in the ‘keep clear’ box – blocking access to and from the promenade.

The spokesman said: “After the driver approached us and we politely asked him to move his car, he told us ‘We can’t make him move it because we are not the police’.

“At that moment the police arrived. Still reluctant to move, the police found that the driver was uninsured and issued a fine and told him he would get six points on his license.

“Please do not park in front of gates whether they have signs on them or not, and don’t park on clearly marked access areas. This time it cost the driver a fine and points, Next time it would cost someone their life.”
