Watch flames rage through car after collision in Wannock

This was the moment a fire raged through a crashed car, sending black smoke billowing into the sky last night.

The flames quickly consumed the Aston Martin, which had collided with a fence in Jevington Road, Wannock, according to police.

A 60-year-old man from Brighton suffered severe burns in the blaze.

He had been the driver and his passenger, a 53-year-old woman from Brighton, suffered minor injuries, police said.

An air ambulance was scrambled to the scene and the man was taken to hospital in Brighton, before being whisked to a specialist burns unit at Queen Victoria Hospital in East Grinstead.

The incident happened just after 6pm on Thursday evening (May 28).

The alarm was raised at 6.26pm and firefighters rushed to battle the flames.

Sussex Police said investigations are ongoing to determine whether the fire started before or after the collision.

No other vehicles were involved, the force said.
