Pursued by Bear is a new drama school opening its doors to the budding young actors of Rye.

The school, based at the Tilling Green Community Centre, 4.15pm till 5.15pm on Friday evenings during term time, allows students to explore a wide variety of drama and theatre techniques including: devising performances, developing scripts, physical theatre, understanding Shakespeare, character development, presenting monologues and performing scripts from theatre, film and television.

Creativity, self-expression and self-confidence are definitely the buzz words here.

Artistic Director of the project, Zoe Morgan, is herself a professional actress and director.

She is currently performing professionally with the George Lassos the Moon Theatre Company.

Zoe has worked and trained with various professional companies including Glyndebourne, Channel 4, the RSC and the All the Worlds Group.

Having taught extensively throughout her career, one of her great passions is teaching theatre in a way that includes all abilities and ages; inspiring a love for the arts, building confidence and identifying personalities and skills sets.

A constant performer at the historic Ellen Terry Barn theatre, at Smallhythe, and regular director at The Stables Theatre (of the Little Theatre Guild) and of the eagerly awaited yearly Stables Theatre Youth Theatre Project, she is passionate about teaching and the effect that theatre can have on young people.

Most importantly Zoe believes theatre should be fun, challenging and engaging a form of expression that everyone can benefit from and anyone can be inspired by.

The drama group takes its name from the famous stage direction in the Shakespeare play A Winter’s Tale - ‘exit pursued by a bear’.
