Flight engineer Tim Peake of the European Space Agency is joined by Expedition 46 Commander Scott Kelly and flight engineer Tim Kopra, both of NASA, in giving their thoughts on being in space during the holidays.

The trio are all hovering inside the space station as they deliver their message, and end it with something rather spectacular.

Major Peake, from Westbourne, tells watchers: “Christmas is traditionally a time for friends and family to get together, and although we can’t be with friends and family this year, we’ll be orbiting the Earth 16 times on Christmas Day, and sending all our good wishes to everybody back down on the beautiful planet Earth.”
