Water way for Arundel to boot the bottle

A NEW drinking fountain and water campaign is set to be launched in Arundel.

Town mayor, Wendy Eve, will officially open the Arundel Agenda 21 fountain at 11am on Saturday, March 31, at Town Quay.

She will be announced by town crier, Angela Standing.

During the launch, there will be water tastings, a video, exhibitions and music as part of a drive to get people to leave their bottled water behind.

Special guest, Huw Kingston, from Bundanoon, Australia, will tell how it became the first town in the world to declare itself bottled water free.

Arundel Agenda 21 has also designed a new, collapsible water bag, for people to fill and reuse, which folds up when it is empty.

Rita Godfrey, one of the organisers of the project, said: “We are so pleased to be able to reveal our new drinking fountain and water bags. Plastic water bottles cause such waste and wildlife problems and are a rip-off.

“More people are now turning back to tap water and we want to make healthy tap water freely available to everyone visiting our town.”

The project has been supported by SEEDA, West Sussex County Council, Arundel Town Council and Southern Water. Arundel Water Bags will available throughout the town.
