WDM talk on climate change

Climate change - is corporate power cooking the planet?

This huge subject is to be tackled during a World Development Movement talk at St Mary Magdalene church hall on March 8 at 7pm.

WDM senior policy officer Pete Hardstaff will be visiting the Bexhill and Hastings branch of WDM to discuss his fears and views on the future of the planet.

He comments: "The world is waking up to the reality of climate change - and its impact on the poor. But methods to deal with it, like carbon trading, carbon offsetting, and biofuels, are really about satisfying corporate interest and maintaining narrowly defined 'growth'.

"Hear how corporate globilisation is preventing us tackling climate change and find out how to join the campaign to stop climate injustice."

Local chairman Denis Lucey is "very happy" to welcome Pete Hardstaff to Bexhill as he is represents WDM at international conferences, including the summit at Bali which recently bought climate change issues firmly onto the world stage.

"He is an expert in climate change," said Denis.

"He travels not only to the Far East, but also to Canada and the US. He is quite a speaker - a very good and clear speaker. We are lucky to have him come here."
