'˜We shall never forget': Lindfield community remembers their fallen heroes

The day started off at 6am when bagpiper Peter Candy played When the Battle’s O’er at the War Memorial as part of a national initiative.

Members of the RBL Lindfield Branch then met at the War Memorial at 11am to mark the centenary of the falling silent of the guns in WWI. In the afternoon, wreaths were laid to remember all those killed in WWI and WWII at the War Memorial and a service was then held at the Lindfield United Reformed Church.

Finally, a beacon was lit on the Common at 7pm, again as part of a national initiative.

The Branch are extremely grateful to Lindfield Parish Council for organising the beacon lighting event, to the Lindfield URC for holding the church service and for providing refreshments afterwards, to the ministers from all the Lindfield churches who led the service, to the representatives from all the local organisations who laid wreaths and to the children from local schools who gave such moving readings. We are also very grateful to Peter Candy who played the bagpipes at all the events during the day.

Lindfield has not forgotten.
