We will remember

WORTHING will once again remember the tragic loss of life in two World Wars and other conflicts on Sunday, November 9, when the annual Remembrance Service and march past will take place at the war memorial in Chapel Road.

The two minutes' silence will start on the first stroke of the Town Hall clock at 11am, after which the Rev. Samuel Reading, president of Worthing Churches Together, will conduct the service.

The mayor, James Doyle, accompanied by Hugh Wyatt '” lord lieutenant of West Sussex '” will lay wreaths for the Fallen from the borough and West Sussex and take the march-past salute in front of the Town Hall at approximately 11.30am after the service.

Worthing's Salvation Army Citadel Band will provide the stirring music for this poignant event and lead the march past.

The parade, led by parade marshal Fl Lt Jones, includes the Combined Ex-Services contingent with their standard bearers and escorts.

After many years of campaigning by the Legion, the observance of the two minutes' silence at 11am each November 11 is now firmly re-established in the national calendar.

On behalf of the Royal British Legion, the mayor is calling for all Worthing residents and workers on Tuesday to stand still for the two minutes' silence.

The silence will start and end by the firing of rockets from the beach area.

On Saturday, a service of Remembrance will be held at Broadwater and Worthing Cemetery in South Farm Road, starting at 10.45am.
