We will remember them

BEXHILL is preparing to honour those who have given their lives in the service of their country.

Services will be held at the seafront war memorial, at Little Common war memorial and at St Augustine's Church on Sunday.

The Two Minutes' Silence will be observed at the seafront memorial at 11am on Saturday.

Rother chairman Cllr Wendy Miers will lead the town's observance of Remembrance Sunday by laying the first wreath at the seafront war memorial.

She will be followed by Town Mayor Cllr Eric Armstrong, who will be accompanied by his wife and Mayoress Jeanette.

Deputy Town Mayor Cllr Keith Bridger, accompanied by his wife and Deputy Mayoress Cllr Helen Bridger will lay the first wreath at Little Common's ceremony.

The Mayor and Mayoress will both be at St Augustine's Church by 2.45pm for the Royal British Legion's annual afternoon service of remembrance, conducted by the Vicar, the Rev Robert Coates.

The Deputy Mayor and Mayoress wil be at the annual service of remembrance and rededication at the White Rock Theatre, Hastings at 5.45pm.

The Rother chairman will lay the local authority's tribute at the seafront and will attend the St Augustine's and White Rock services.

Once again, Bexhill's morning remembrance ceremony will see ex-service veterans marching with members of the town's youth organisations to the sea front memorial.

The parade will form up in Devonshire Square at 10.15.

The procession will be headed by lone piper Hamilton Bracken and by the Newhaven Youth Marching Band.

It will march to Marina, where the service led by the Rev Robert Coates as Royal British Legion chaplin will start at 10.30.

Bexhill Sailing Club's starter cannon will sound the start of the nationwide Two Minutes' Silence at 11am.

Following the laying of wreaths by ex-service and youth organisations there will be opportunity for members of the public to leave their personal tributes.

Members of Little Common branch of the Royal British Legion will march from legion headquarters in Meads Avenue to morning service at St Mark's Church and then down to the war memorial on the village roundabout for the wreath-laying ceremony.
