Weald student’s Kenya challenge

A lot of Kenyan classrooms are mud huts which are overcrowded and collapse every five years.

Niamh Donnelly is a year 12 pupil at The Weald School in Billingshurst who will be going to Kenya in the summer of 2015, with a group of sixth form students, to help build permanent, brick classrooms for schools in Kenya.

The Weald School ask all students to raise at least the money for their building materials and encourage them to fundraise further towards the cost of the trip. In order to complete this fundraising, Niamh is embarking on a 100km running challenge completed in competitive races between October 2014 and July 2015.

Niamh only began running in January 2014 as a break from GCSE revision which lead to her first competitive 10km race in the Horsham Joggers race, May 2014, where she was the youngest competitor.

Her 100km challenge began with the Great South Run, a 10 mile (16km) race in Portsmouth on the 26th October 2014, which she completed in one hour, 27 minutes and 17 seconds and was the furthest she had ever run. Run two will be taking place on the 16th November and will be the Brighton Brookes 10km race. Niamh hopes to have run 30km before Christmas 2014 with remainder to be completed in 2015.
