Local groups are invited to join Wealden and Eastbourne councils at the launch of a joint walking festival.

Working with walking and special interest groups, the councils launch Coast and Country on September 27 with two consecutive weekends of activities.

It aims to encourage residents and visitors to take up walking as a way of staying healthy while enjoying the stunning beauty of this part of Sussex. Local groups and those from further afield are invited to organise walks which focus on the seafronts, promenades, downs and villages from the coast to the High Weald.

The event offers personal challenges, new perspectives, fun, quirky and special interest walks to suit all tastes and fitness levels.

Those already registered include Nordic Walking for Health, Eastbourne Walks, Soles and Souls, Walk and Cycle Holidays, Discovering Fossils, Sussex Pathfinders, The Ramblers, High Weald AONB, Long Distance Walking Association, Sussex Young Walkers, children’s centres and Age Concern. The first weekend focuses on the seafront, Downs and villages, while on October 4-5 it is Wealden and the North Weald. Details: jayne.howard@eastbourne.gov.uk and sophie.hepworth@wealden.gov.uk
