A well respected and greatly admired Wealden District Councillor died last week at the age of 86.
A council spokesman said: “It is with great sadness we have learnt of the death of Councillor Major Antony Quin RM.”
Councillor Quin was elected to Wealden District Council in May 1999 as member for Crowborough West Ward and continued as councillor until his death. He served on a number of committees during his time including planning committees representing the north of the district, the internal and audit scrutiny committee and the environmental scrutiny committee. He was chairman of the regulatory and audit committee for a number of years.
Councillor Quin was also the council’s representative for Wealden Citizens’ Advice and for the Crowborough Community Association.
Paying tribute, Wealden Council’s Chairman, Cllr Brian Redman, said: “Councillor Quin was always very supportive of his fellow councillors and those who turned to him for assistance in the community. Courteous at all time, he put a lot of thought and time into his work for the people of Crowborough and was always ready to speak up when needed. Through his work on the council and for the Citizens Advice, he helped a great many people. His 15 years as a councillor is part of a fitting example of a life in public service.” He had been unwell for some time.
