The Met Office has issued a cold weather alert for Hastings.
Temperatures plummeted overnight as the first winter snow hit the local area.
Hastings had a light dusting of snow this morning and the forecast for the rest of the week is for daytime temperatures not to rise much above six degrees centigrade.
With freezing isolated fog patches and the risk of more sleet and snow throughout the next few days, coupled with the wind chill factor, the temperature will feel more like minus one.
Further east adverse weather conditions led to traffic problems in the Polegate area north of Eastbourne.
Earlier this morning (January 20) Sussex police received a number of calls relating to problems with snow on the A259 Eastbourne Road between Seaford and the Exceat Bridge at Cuckmere Haven.
Some buses in the area were reported to have lost traction and become stuck and gritters were deployed to help clear snow and ice.
