Local experts have predicted possible flooding could occur due to the conditions and the Met Office has released a Yellow Warning for wind and rain.

Ian Michaelwaite, of Netweather, based in Kingsfold, said: “Autumn arrives early over Sussex tomorrow, with unseasonably strong winds, but more importantly a prolonged spell of heavy rain that will lead to disruption with localised flooding possible, particularly during the evening making for some tricky driving conditions through rush hour.

“An area of low pressure will be tracking north east over northern France through tomorrow and we will start to feel its effects from lunchtime as the first of the rain arrives, temperatures quickly drop into the mid teens and the wind strengthens as it swings towards a northerly direction.

“The rain will intensify, with over 50mm possible locally, and with the blustery wind taking plenty of leaves off of trees, drains and guttering will quickly fill and flood making driving difficult and potentially disrupting public transport as well.

“The hard ground won’t be able to absorb the rain either, so it will wash off into drains and gullies, making localised flooding more likely in the usual trouble spots.

“The worst will pass by late evening, and Saturday will give us a chance to dry out before more rain and heavy showers arrive from the west later on Sunday.
