Heavy rain and thunderstorms could hit Sussex tomorrow (Friday June 5) as the Met Office has issued a severe weather warning.

Localised heavy downpours are forecast between 2am and 8pm tomorrow with the added possibility of thunderstorms.

This may result in localised flooding which could cause problems on the roads overnight and into tomorrow morning.

Frequent lightning strikes could also pose a hazard.

However there is a degree of uncertainty regarding the extent and timing of the storms so residents are advised to monitor the latest weather reports via the Met Office’s website.

The Met Office’s chief forecaster said: “An area of very warm air is expected to move northwards from France early on Friday to affect southeastern parts of Britain.

“This is likely to provide a focus for locally intense thundery downpours which could give 15 mm of rain in less than an hour and perhaps as much as 30 mm.”
