Video shows spectacular forked lightning illuminate the Sussex sky

As the day became hotter, more humid and a little bit sticky, the Met Office warned thunderstorms could hit the county.

While many residents were spared torrential downpours, this video shows a dramatic lightning display lit up the night's sky.

The yellow thunderstorm warning is still in place until 9am this morning (June 26) and will remain in force for the rest of the day in Kent and further north into London.
