Scattered thunderstorms are likely to extend northwards across eastern and south-eastern areas of England during the day, giving some localised intense downpours.

A yellow warning has gone out about the risk of localised surface water which may cause problems for drivers.

Frequent lightning could prove to be an additional hazard.

The thunderstorms should clear away eastwards on Friday night.

The Met Office adds that, as is typical of this type of situation, there is considerable uncertainty as regards the extent and timing of any thunderstorm, with some places within the warning area probably escaping the downpours.
