Weaving artistic magic inside former Angmering windmill

THE newest and one of the most unusual gallery spaces in West Sussex opened over Easter with an exhibition of tapestry weaving.

The Mill House Gallery, housed in a restored windmill at Ecclesden Lane, Angmering, hosted the exhibition called Identity.

Margaret Appa, who lives within the mill complex, which also includes her studio, where she teaches art, is one of the members of the South East British Tapestry Group who displayed work on three floors of the gallery, which offers stunning views over the Downs and out to sea.

Jane Brunning, a professional weaver also living in Angmering, featured in the show, too.

Subjects linked to the theme of “identity” included a remarkable portrait of a grand-daughter and peas in a pod, and yet there is no slavish following of the title, with each weaver adding their own interpretation.
