People Matter, a charity providing information and guidance to job seekers, will be running weekly free advice sessions at the Wealden District Council offices in Hailsham to help give Wealden residents the edge in the job market.
From Monday March 2, the sessions, available from 9am to 5pm every Monday, will offer one-to-one guidance on CV writing, careers guidance from a qualified and experienced adviser and help with application forms or letters to employers. Residents will also be guided to other suitable free services offered by People Matter, including weekly workshops, one-to-one guidance on starting your own business or advice about volunteering.
Cllr Roy Galley, Cabinet Member for Economic Development and Regeneration, said: “People Matter is a welcome addition to Wealden’s ever-growing network of outreach services provided in the district so even more residents can benefit from their expert guidance and advice. The speciality advice provided by People Matter can make all the difference to residents who are looking for work. It’s all provided closer to home and with no or less cost of travel.”
Job Centre Plus also run drop-in sessions every Monday at Vicarage Lane so people can discuss work and training opportunities, clarify the rules and conditions for claiming Jobseekers’ Allowance and find information on Job Centre initiatives.
There are also free to use computers for residents to search for jobs or complete forms online in the public access area of Wealden’s Hailsham offices, where there is also a noticeboard of the latest local jobs.
