West Meads set forcommunity fun day

A community fete will take over West Meads's village green this weekend.

The open space will be the location on Saturday for this year's Aldwick Fete. Some 30 stalls will be offering all the traditional attractions for fete-goers to tempt them to part with their loose change.

The day will begin on a serious note with the unveiling of a memorial seat on the village green to Brian Washington. Mr Washington died in February 2006 from cancer. He was aged 59. He and his wife, Jane, ran West Meads Youth Club for 29 years and he was heavily involved in Scouting.

But the accent will be on fun when the fete opens at noon. A range of events will be featured during the afternoon to provide enjoyment for all ages.

A dog obedience display will be staged by Hilary Sykes of the Bognor Regis and District Dog Training Club at 2.15pm while Bognor Regis Concert Band will perform some toe-tapping songs around the same time.

A tiny tots fancy dress competition for the under sevens will be held at 2.45pm with the theme of nursery rhymes.

Punch and Judy man Trevor Jennings will be performing with the traditional characters from 3.15pm before the concert band resumes its performance.
