West Sussex County Council defends its actions

WEST Sussex County Council has defended its response and the actions it took to tackle icy conditions.

County council cabinet member for strategic planning and transport, Derek Whittington, tried to reassure the town's residents last week saying the council had not run out of salt and was well stocked to cope with future icy spells.

He added: "We are fully committed to keeping the roads and pavements as safe as possible for the public."
