Can you spare: an hour or so tomorrow morning from 9.30am onwards? Please help spring clean Westfield Church ready for Easter. Everyone welcome! The churchyard is looking particularly beautiful at the moment, with all the spring flowers in bloom '“ do visit. Services on Sunday are both Holy Communion, at 8am and 10am. Palm Sunday (9 April) will start with a walk of witness from Westfield School at 10am, and the usual Good Friday Workshop will be in the Parish Hall from 10am-12 noon for ages 5-11 years.

Westfield Scout Group: has its annual Duck Race on Sunday, April 2 at 1pm. As usual, the ducks will be thrown from the bridge at Forge Stream, Cottage Lane, and burgers and hot dogs will be available from 12.15pm. Please buy your lucky duck number (£1) from Scouts, Archers Butchers, or at the field on the day. There will be a special class for your own character ducks, too, with entry £2 on the day. Let’s hope for good racing conditions!

The Friendship Club: meets on Monday, April 3 in the New Inn from 2 - 3.30 pm. Members play bingo and whist with a cup of tea and biscuits during the afternoon. Several outings are arranged during the year. The yearly subscription is £5, and then the cost is only 10p each meeting. New members are always welcome; contact Jean Hobson on 01424 753095. Please note that the Friendship Club will be unable to meet at the New Inn on April 17 and May 1 as the pub serves lunches on these Bank Holiday Mondays. The next meeting is therefore postponed Monday, May 15, and thereafter first and third Mondays of each month as usual.

Westfield Cricket Club: is embarking on two initiatives to get young people playing cricket. Its junior section starts on Monday, 10 April for young people from 7-17 years to receive coaching and competition in cricket from qualified coaches. This is the result of a successful year of co-operation between Westfield School, Sussex Cricket Foundation and Westfield CC. In addition, All Stars, a new initiative for 5 to 8 year olds, is also being launched on behalf of ECB.

If you have children who would be interested in joining the Junior section initiative then please contact any of the Westfield CC committee members (full list on the village website) for a registration form. For the All Stars initiative then you can also register children on line at www.allstarscricket.co.uk. The Cricket Club secretary is Kevin Baker (07988 635573,) who can put you in touch with other committee members.

We welcome parents to all training and competitions. Coaching sessions will be at the Cricket Ground, for Juniors on Mondays from 5-6pm starting on April 10, and All Stars on Sundays from 10-11am starting on May 21.

Westfield Parish Council: is very pleased to announce a new tennis coaching session for children aged 5-11 years at the village courts starting after the Easter holidays on Mondays from 5-6pm. The cost is £45 for 11 weeks, or £5 for pay and play. For more information call 07704 774017, or email [email protected]. Westfield Horticultural Society: holds its Spring Show in the Community Hall next Saturday, April 8 at 2.30pm, so there is a week to organise your entries. There are classes for flowers, plants, vegetables, handicrafts, and special children’s classes, so there really is something for everyone. Please pick up a show schedule from The Plough, The New Inn, or Archers Butchers.
