It can't have escaped anyone's notice: that the Westfield Community Association Village Fete is tomorrow on the Parish Field from 1.30pm. Helpers were still needed earlier this week, so if you can lend a hand tomorrow please contact Annie on 01424 754337. The parade led by the Section 5 Drummers leaves the New Inn at 1.15pm to open the celebrations. The theme is the 950th anniversary of the Battle of Hastings with, and if you can, come in costume to celebrate this. There will be a more recent war veteran opening proceedings. Expect are all sorts of stalls and attractions, including a miniature steam railway, classic cars, 1066 Flying Club, beer tent, hog roast, and live music and entertainment throughout the afternoon, so come and join in the fun. Please use the Cottage Lane pedestrian entrance to the Parish Field.

The Westfield Draw: raises funds for Westfield Community Association as well as giving you a chance to win a cash prize every month. New members are always welcome to join. Renewals (£10) for existing members are now due. Please leave your remittance (cash, or cheques to WCA) in an envelope with your details at Westfield News for Pauline to collect. Pauline will undoubtedly be pleased to see you at the Fete.

Westfield Youth Club: urgently needs permanent helpers to start in September. They have now lost three members of the team due to other commitments and will not be able to carry on without the help of new volunteers.

The Friendship Club: meets in the Parish Hall on Monday, June 13 from 2-3.30pm for bingo, whist or just a chat over tea and biscuits. Several outings are arranged during the year, and new members are always welcome, so contact Jean Hobson on 01424 753095 for more information.

There is some good news: for young cricketers. Westfield Cricket Club have joined forces with Sussex Cricket Foundation and Westfield School to introduce cricket to the boys and girls with a view to developing players who will, hopefully, go on to play for our local club and potentially be skilled enough to play professionally for Sussex Cricket Club. The process is starting with a roadshow operated by Sussex Cricket Foundation at Westfield School on Wednesday, June 15. This will give the pupils an insight in to the game of cricket and involves the use of three cricket related inflatables. After the Sussex Cricket Foundation roadshow there will be an opportunity for some of the more talented pupils to get invited to 8 weeks of free coaching from Sussex Cricket Foundation coaches at Horntye Cricket Ground in Hastings during the summer. This is due to be followed by with 20 weeks of free coaching by Sussex Cricket Foundation coaches and will be held at Westfield School starting in the autumn.

The mobile unit: of the East Sussex Hearing Resource Centre will be visiting Westfield on Thursday, June 23, and will be in The New Inn car park from 10.30am – 12.30pm. The bus is equipped to offer demonstrations of assistive equipment and hearing screening tests.
