Services at the Parish Church: on Sunday are Holy Communion at 8am and Morning Praise at 10am. The Friends of Westfield Church raised £352 at last Saturday's Coffee Morning, and thank everyone who supported them

Members of Westfield Women’s Institute: enjoyed an excellent presentation about Rudyard Kipling at the Rother Group meeting last week. Westfield WI meets next in the Parish Hall on Tuesday, May 10 at 2.15 pm. This meeting will include discussion of the resolutions to be debated at the national annual meeting in June, which tackle the avoidance of food waste and addressing food poverty, and the issue of providing appropriate care in hospitals for people with dementia. New members are always welcome to the WI; just turn up, or contact the W.I. President Mrs Val Walkinshaw on 07927 403200 for more information.

Beer festival: There will be a mini Beer Festival at the New Inn on Saturday, May 7 from 1-5pm, with Morris dancing, barbecue and live music. Let’s hope for better weather than we’re having this week!

How is your scarecrow: progressing? The closing date: for the WCA Scarecrow Competition is fast approaching. As this year is the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death, the scarecrows need to have a Shakespeare theme. Entry is free and welcome from everyone - all ages, individuals, groups and businesses. Entry forms with rules are available from the village shops, and need to be returned by Saturday, May 14. Scarecrows need to be displayed from May 28 until June 4, and prizes and certificates will be presented at the Village Fete on June 11.

Garden visit: There may be one or two places left on the Westfield Horticultural Society trip to Borde Hill Gardens on Saturday, May 14. These stunningly beautiful gardens are located just north of Haywards Heath. The coach leaves at 9am, and returns at about 6pm. The cost is £9.50 for WHS members, £12.50 for Westfield Village residents and £19.50 for others, and includes coach, entry to the gardens, and an informative guided tour from one of the gardeners.
