New PCSO: We are fortunate as a village community to have been taken under the wing of a new and enthusiastic Police Community Support Officer, Demetrius Georghiou. With a view to being a prominent and approachable figure in our village, Deme is keen to introduce himself to village residents, parents and guardians and would be happy to say hello whilst on his rounds.

The “new” New Inn: After major developments & anticipation the doors opened on 27th February. For the first few weeks it will be drinks only until the kitchen opens mid March for locally sourced (where possible) & home cooked food. Already planned to commence from March 18th are regular coffee mornings on Wednesdays from 9.30 onwards. Call in to find out more.

Westfield Horticultural Society: A fortnight has passed since Westfield Horticultural Society held its celebrated Quiz night and pasta supper. Over 60 people enjoyed the evening with super prizes for the Quiz and raffle. Well done to all those who participated. The next Horticultural Society event will soon be upon us and this is the Spring Show which is held in the Community Centre on Saturday March 28th. Now is the time to be considering what to enter. If you do not already have the Society year book, schedules can be obtained from the newsagent in Chapel Lane or by contacting Kelvin Lynch on 01424 754612. Not only are there classes for Flowers, there are classes for Home produce, Handicrafts, Photography, Floral art, Junior classes and a fun class of animals made out of 5 vegetables/fruit or both. It is always of interest to pit yourself against the judges or your fellow members. Tea is served in the afternoon so you can come and enjoy the proceedings and see whether you agree with the judges decisions! There is also a plant sale and the customary raffle to make the day a fun event. Make a note in your diary now. The Friendship Club: continues to meet every other Monday in the Parish Hall from 2.00 p.m. to 3.30 p.m. where whist and bingo are enjoyed by members. Tea and biscuits are served during the afternoon. New members will be made very welcome. Subscription £5 per year. For further information please contact Jean Hobson on 753095. Westfield Scout Group: is celebrating its centenary in 2015. If you have youngsters, boys or girls, between the ages of 6 and 13 who are looking for fun and adventure why not give Beavers, Cubs of Scouts a try. For full details contact Frances on 754548 or Rose on 754080. They are holding a Jumble Sale in Westfield Community Hall at 2.30pm on Saturday, March 7. Donations of jumble are most welcome at the Hall from 1 pm, but please note that TVs, monitors, or items larger than a chair cannot be accepted.

Westfield WI: Westfield Women’s Institute meets in the Parish Hall on Tuesday, March 10 at 2.15 pm. Edward Paget will be talking about ‘My Friends the Elephants’, and the competition is an elephant ornament. New members are warmly welcomed at meetings on the second Tuesday of the month. Westfield School Governor: A number of vacancies have recently arisen within our Governing Body, including a Parent Governor role and newly created ‘Co-Opted’ roles. Governors play a critical role in keeping the governing body aware of the views of parents and the local community. Serving as part of a team and an enthusiasm for the work of the school is paramount to a successful governing body. Pass and Move: runs football coaching sessions every Saturday at St Leonard’s Academy from 9-10.30am (£3.50) or 9-11.30am (£5) and in Westfield during the week. Rye and District Association of the National Trust: Thursday 19th March Imogen Corrigan will be presenting a Talk on ‘The Topsy Turvy World of Misericords’. A tour of some of the extraordinary images existing in English churches. All Talks will be at Brede Village Hall commencing at 2.00 pm. The entrance fee of £3 (members) and £4 (non-members) includes refreshments after the talk.
