Services at the Parish Church this Sunday, April 27, are Holy Communion (BCP) at 8am and Family Service at 9.30am. As usual there is Holy Communion on Wednesday at 9.30am. The Prayer Group meets on Tuesday, and the Home Groups on Wednesday, both at 7.30pm.

The Friendship Club meets at the Parish Hall from 2-3.30pm on Monday, April 28. Whist, bingo, scrabble and dominoes are enjoyed by members, with tea and biscuits during the break. New members will be made very welcome; ring Jean on 01424 753095 if you would like more information.

Everyone is invited to the Westfield Annual Parish Assembly in the Parish Hall on Tuesday, April 29 from 6.30pm. There will be displays by local organisations, and time to chat to your councillors over free refreshments (wine and nibbles, or tea) before the Parish Council’s annual report, with an opportunity to raise matters of local concern. An important part of the evening is the presentation of the annual volunteer awards to thank very special Westfield residents who help out in the community.

The Friends of Westfield Parish Church are holding a Coffee Morning from 10am-12 noon on Bank Holiday Monday, May 5, in the Parish Hall. All the usual stalls will be there: tombola, crafts, cakes, Granny’s Attic, books, plants and raffle. Everyone is welcome, and admission is free.

The Westfield village website www.westfieldvillage.co.uk now has details about locally available produce for sale from home and ‘back garden’ producers. If you have spare eggs, herbs, spring seedling plants, home grown vegetables, etc. for sale (even if only occasionally) and would like to be included in our new website feature, please email [email protected]. We will explain that produce is available seasonally, with no guarantees of supply. We will publicise what produce you can usually offer and your location, hopefully with a local map showing suppliers. Don’t forget that the website has information about village organisations, events, Westfield Community Association, the Parish Council, and all sorts of useful links. The website exists to serve the village community, and your contributions, news and views are needed.

Plans are coming together for this year’s Village Fete on Saturday 28 June from 1-4.30pm on the school field. This promises to be an even bigger event than last year, with lots of arena displays and stalls already booked. All offers of help are welcome; please contact Rachel 0786 689 4397. Do not miss this community event!

The consultation about the downgrading of Battle Fire Station closes on April 28. Essentially there is no-one in favour of the option to downgrade, but to make your view known you should visit www.esfs.org/publicconsultation. You can also contact Fire Authority members (who are the elected representatives who will make the decision) at www.esfrs.org/fa/members.shtml.
