Lions Help Hospices. Rye and District Lions have been busy raising funds for more local deserving causes. They were able to recently donate to two local hospices. They were pleased to donate a further £2,000 to St. Michael’s Hospice, bringing their total donations to the Hospice over the last few years to £15,250. They also donated £600 to The Hospice in the Weald at Pembury. These donations are divided in proportion to the area covered by Rye & District Lions, which means that, as the area within Kent that they cover is much smaller than that within East Sussex, the donations do differ. Rye Lions next fund-raising event is morning coffee and afternoon tea in the garden of 11 High Street, Rye when all money raised will be donated to Rye and District Community Transport, a service that the Lions are pleased to support, as they also make use of their services. In the garden there will be stalls with cakes, books, produce, clothing and plants in addition to a Grand Raffle. Later, the Lions will be organising their 34th Annual Raft Race and Fete on Sunday 25 August, with the Fete opening at midday and the Raft Race at 2.30pm. Entries for rafts are still coming in and if any organisation, pub, business or family wish to enter a raft they should contact Bob Harvey on 01424 751059. Stall space is filling fast and anyone that requires space for a stall should contact Reg Emson on 01797 224174.
