You are reminded that your WCA Westfield Draw subscription is due for renewal this month. This is a monthly lottery organised to raise funds for the WCA. The draw takes place at the end of each month, with cash prizes. Membership is £10, which you can leave with your details in an envelope at Westfield News either as cash or a cheque payable to WCA. See the WCA Newsletter for further details, including direct e-transfer. Renewals will also be collected at the Fete, and new members are welcome.

The Friends of Westfield Church invite you to a strawberry tea in the delightful gardens of Church Place Farm (opposite the church) on Sunday, June 23 from 3-4.30pm. If the weather is poor it will be held in the Parish Hall. Admission is £4.

The Westfield Community Association AGM takes place in the Community Dining Hall on Monday, June 24 at 7.30pm, starting with wine and nibbles. All individual Westfield residents are invited as well as representatives of village organisations.

The next Friendship Club meeting is on Monday, June 24th from 2-3.30pm in the Parish Hall. The yearly subscription is £5 with 10p per meeting, and new members will be made very welcome. The Friendship Club do not meet at Whitsun and August bank holidays. Therefore their future dates for your calendar are, July 8th and 22nd; September 16th and 30th; October 14th and 29th; November 11th and 25th; December 9th.

The Mobile Blood Unit will be at ‘The Plough’ on Tuesday, June 25. This is your chance to donate blood, with sessions from 1.30-4pm and 5-7.30pm. Ring 0300 123 23 23 for more information, or visit www.blood.co.uk.

The mobile unit of the East Sussex Hearing Resource Centre will be at ‘The Plough’ on Thursday, June 27 from 10.30am-3.30pm. The staff offer free information advice on all aspects of hearing loss, and also are able to demonstrate equipment and hearing screening tests. Please make sure that anyone you know who is deaf or hard of hearing knows about this service. The bus is accessible to wheelchair users.

The F3 women’s group meets at 7.30pm in the Parish Hall on Thursday, June 27, when retired solicitor Angela Hawkesley will be speaking about a ‘Life in Crime’. All women are very welcome. .

This year’s Westfield Village Fete on Saturday, July 6 will soon be here. The theme is ‘Bees’, so ‘buzz along’ and make a make a ‘beeline’ for the school field from 1-4pm. There will be the usual stalls, refreshments and barbecue, and arena events include fancy dress, dancing displays and races. Call 0795 263 5448 for details, to book a table or to offer help.

Westfield Golf Fellowship’s European Tour to Stoke by Nayland was won by the villages own Tom Hanes. Tom won with a good score of 109 points over the 3 days. The next open event is on July 22nd – The Captains Bucket. For more information please contact [email protected]

The Westfield HUB meets at ‘The Plough’ on Fridays from 10am to 12noon. A warm and friendly welcome and a decent cup of tea/coffee are assured at the Hub every Friday morning between 10am and midday.’

The Rye and District Association of the National Trust have the following events. Saturday 22nd June A summer picnic at Smallhythe Place from 5.00pm followed at 6.00pm by a performance in the Barn Theatre of ‘Celebrating Shakespeare’, a light hearted romp with the bard devised and directed by Peter Mould. Tuesday 25th June Our Walk this month is centred on Icklesham. Park around Main Road junction of Oast House Road. Circular walk to the Royal Oak Pett. 4 miles out 3½ back. Down-Under Rye Lions Meet Rye (UK) Lions. Rye and District Lions Club were delighted to welcome another visit from their sister club, The Lions Club of Rye, Victoria, Australia. Lions Brian and Gael Harvey, with their grandson Jack, were welcomed by Rye Lions’ President, Malcolm McDonough and their PRO, Conrad Freezer. Their tour started with an introduction to Rye, by visiting the Rye Town Model at Rye Heritage Centre on the Strand Quay, where after an introduction by the Centre’s Manager, Peter Costick, they enjoyed the story of Rye. Peter followed this with even more information on Rye’s history and answered the questions from the Australians. They were then taken on a full tour of Rye and enjoyed a pub lunch at the Ypres Inn. Brian Harvey was delighted to find that one of the local real ales was also a Harvey’s. This is the third visit that Rye and District Lions have had from Australia, with a delegation form Winchelsea, Victoria, in 2010 and another visit from Rye, Victoria, last year. Club banners were exchanged by both clubs at the foot of Mermaid Street. This is one of the advantages of membership of a Lions Club, in that wherever you travel in the world, with clubs in over 200 countries worldwide, a visiting Lion is warmly welcomed. Their tour was rounded off with afternoon tea at Hayden’s. Rye Lions have two fund-raising events in the near future. Their first is a coffee morning and afternoon tea in the beautiful garden of 11 High Street, Rye on Saturday 13th July from 10.30 am until 4.30 pm. Admission to this event is free and in addition to the coffee and tea, there will be stalls selling, cakes, books, produce, clothing, plants and a grand raffle. Proceeds from this event will be donated to Rye and District Community Transport. Their second event is the Annual Rye Raft Race and Fete on Sunday 25th August. The Fete, with many stalls and rides, beer tent, barbecue, ice-creams and live music all day, opens at 12 noon and the race starts at 2.30pm. Both events are free, although the Lions will be collecting for good causes, many local. The Salts site has many stalls sites booked, but there is still some room and any organisation or company wishing to reserve stall space should contact Reg Emson on 01797 224174.
