Westfield Horticultural Society Spring Show last Saturday was full of colour, with prize plants and flowers beautifully displayed, together with craft and cookery items. Only an insane optimist would have put money on the success of the 2013 Spring Show. Yet, despite the worst February and March in many years, Westfield pulled out all the stops to make a memorable exhibition of Floral Art, flowers, cookery and handicrafts. Numbers of entrants and entries were the highest for a decade, and while the weather limited the varieties of flowers available, other classes more than made up for deficiences. Two names come to the fore this year—Mrs. Chris Lynch for her prowess in home produce and floral exhibits, and Mrs. Barbara Graham for winning the floral art trophy while coping with a new knee joint. Well done!!

Awards were given to the following:

Rosebowl—most points in classes 1—30 C Lynch

Easter Cup 31—42 M. Crouch

Alice Button Cup—home produce classes C. Lynch

Lilian Skinner Trophy M. Stratford

Berry Goblet—best handicraft R. Wiggins

Spring Goblet—outstanding floral art B. Graham

Miniature Cup—best petite arrangement M. Wren

Junior Cup—best junior exhibit Alisha Collingwood

Spring Cup—most points in show M. Crouch

Spring Vase—members only, class22 H. MacDonald

Certificates:
