The Wednesday Bible Study meets at Cockmartins Farm on Wednesday, 25 July at 7.30pm. All are welcome.

The first joint service with Westfield and Guestling congregations is next Sunday, July 29 at 10.30am at Westfield. There will be no NTS on that day.

One to one personal prayer. For those who want someone to personally pray with them in times of particular need, there is an opportunity this week after the 9.30 am service at St John’s where a member of the Prayer Team will be in the North Aisle to pray with you.

Prayer Group. Meeting on the first, third and fifth Tuesday’s each month. 7.30pm at 59 Heathlands. New members always welcome. 

Wednesday Bible Study. For the rest of July we will be looking at three different Bible Heroes. Each study starts at 7.30pm and, if you haven’t been before or haven’t been for a while, they provide a great taster of the study group and the Bible.18th July – Ester at Maureen Griffith’s home, 59 Heathlands, Westfield.

F3. The next meeting of F3 in July will be an End of Term Special on Thursday July 26th. There is no meeting of F3 in August.

Stagecoach has announced the following changes to Westfield bus times. To improve punctuality and reliability, from Monday 10th July most bus times through Westfield have been altered by a few minutes, and during the middle of the day buses follow a different route into Hastings.

From Westfield: - Hastings buses leave 5 minutes EARLIER at 10 past the hour, except the previous 0915 which now leaves at 0902. - Buses leaving between 1010 and 1510 inclusive will OMIT Sainsbury’s altogether and go straight to the Conquest Hospital. They then continue via Silverhill and Bohemia Road to Hastings Station. These services are renumbered 341 from Tenterden or 343 from Rye. - The remaining 340 and 342 services keep to the previous route to Hastings but will not enter Sainsbury’s car park, stopping only on the main road.

From Hastings: - Departure times are unchanged at 14 minutes past the hour except for the last 3 which are 2 minutes earlier at 1617, 1717 & 1817. The journey to Westfield will take about 5 minutes longer. - Buses leaving 1014 and 1314 inclusive will go via Bohemia Road as a 341 or 343 and will NOT serve the Queens Road stop. These and the 1414 which goes via Queens Road will OMIT Sainsbury’s altogether. - The remaining 340 and 342 services will not enter Sainsbury’s car park and will stop only on the main road.

There is a new street dance class in the community hall dining room 6pm till 8pm first lesson is free then £4 a session. Also there is a new legs bums and tums class in the main hall on a Mon eves at 7.15 till 8.15 £3.50 per session.. Further information is available from Rachel Pritchard 07866 894397.

Book Club. The next meeting of the book club will be on Monday 30th July. The book is “The Road Home” by Roas Tremain. Further details from Sue Stephenson.

Westfield Golf Fellowship hosted their Captains Bucket on the evening of July 19th at Hemsted Forest (Cranbrook). The winner was local celebrity chef Matt Drinkwater with an outrageous 41 points. Other scores included Carl Read, Tim Eldridge & Terry Drinkwater with 35, Nick Stretton with 34 & Lee Case with 33. The next competition is a full day at Chartham Park on September 6th including breakfast, lunch & dinner + 27 holes for £50 all in. The Sedlescombe and Westfield Club of the East Sussex Disability Association (ESDA) is looking for new members.  ESDA is a charity organisation led by disabled people and provides expert advice, information and practical support.  ESDA has dedicated accessible coaches with fully qualified driver attendants providing a door to door service for members.  The Sedlescombe and Westfield Club have outings on the second Thursday of the month. Members participate in fundraising to keep the costs down, so there is simply a contribution requested towards the transport. The Westfield Hub now meets at ‘The Plough’ on Fridays from 10am-12 noon for anyone to drop in for coffee, chat, book exchange and use of computers. They are hosting an opportunity to sell all those surplus bits and bobs in your attic and garage! The Hub are holding an indoor/outdoor Boot Sale in the Community Hall dining room and car park on Saturday August 25th. Tables £6.00 and early booking gives choice of indoor or outdoor pitch. Lions Barbecued - Some thirty Rye and District Lions, together with their partners and Friends of Lions, enjoyed a barbecue in the riverside garden of Reg and Chris Emson in Rye. At the barbecue, Conrad Freezer, Rye Lions PRO, presented the immediate past President, Terry Cobby, with a book of the media coverage of Rye Lions during his presidential year. The coverage included 232 items that have been in various newspapers, magazines, newsletters, websites and radio broadcasts, totalling 139 A4 pages.

In Terry’s year of presidency, the Lions donated another record total of £13,024 to many charities and appeals. The Lions are often asked where this money goes and last year 75% was donated locally, 18% to national charities and 7% to international appeals. These included, various hospices, Macmillan Cancer Support, Help for Heroes, the Oliver Curd Trust, Rye Scouts etc. Their next big event is the Annual Rye Raft Race and Fete on Sunday 5th August with the Fete opening at noon and the Raft Race starting at 2pm. For the second year running, the Lions have a full house of stalls and rides on The Salts with over 50 spaces reserved and again have had to turn away some late inquiries. There is still room for a few more rafts and entry packs can be obtained by ringing Bob Harvey on 01424 751059. Both the Fete and the Raft Race have free entry and the Fete will have live music, a barbecue, beer tent, ice-creams, bouncy castle, children’s go-carts and many other stalls with crafts etc.
