Any wildlife observation whether mammal, bird, insect, or flower may be posted on the website, and photos are particularly welcome. Have you seen a hedgehog recently? Westfield Wildlife is appealing for all hedgehog sightings, including any road casualties, because their numbers have declined so drastically over the last few years

Lions Skittle their Ladies. The men of Rye and District Lions challenged their lady members and wives to a pub skittles match at the Kings Head, Udimore. After losing to the ladies last year, the men had their revenge this year. In a closely fought match of three rounds each, the men scored a grand total of 158 compared with the ladies score of 146. As the men were outnumbered by the lady members and the Lions wives, Christine Emson offered to be an honorary man for the evening and joined their team, although she was heard to say that she was not sure it was an honour. The highest score of the evening was Reg Emson with a total of 28, a great improvement on last year when he won the wooden spoon. Three ladies, Carole Cobby, Florence McDonough and Jill McGannan had the highest lady scores with 23 each. The wooden spoon this year went to Bob Harvey with 14 points. Before the match, the Lions, partners and Friends enjoyed a meal together prepared by the staff of the Kings Head. Plans for the Annual Rye Raft Race and Fete, which this year takes place on Sunday 5th August, are well in hand and any pub, club, school, college, company or organisation wishing to enter a raft should contact Bob Harvey for an entry pack on 0845 833 2825. Spaces for stalls are filling fast and anyone wishing to reserve a pitch should contact Reg Emson on 01797 224174 as soon as possible. Any adult in Rye or the nearby villages wishing to join the Lions should ring Conrad Freezer on 01797 252921. More details of Rye Lions can be found on their website at www.e-clubhouse.org/sites/ryedistrict/ or enter “Rye & District Lions” on Facebook.
