What a stroke of good fortune

PLAYTIMES will never be boring again for youngsters at West Park Middle School now they have been presented with their winnings from our cash for middle schools competition.

The Marlborough Road school was delighted when it discovered it had won the 5,000 cash in the competition organised by the Worthing Herald and the Durrington-based Lloyds TSB Registrars '” and on Tuesday, the school was presented with its prize.

The youngsters will now be able to buy lots of exciting playground equipment, including outdoor drafts, Lo-Lo balls, hoopla, skipping ropes and more, making boring playtimes a thing of the past.

John Hofton, the headteacher, said: "We are delighted the children will now have all these items. They will help the children to keep fit and develop friendships. I would like to extend our thanks to parents who sent in the vouchers and the Lloyds TSB Registrars and the Worthing Herald."

Malcolm Howie, deputy headteacher, said: "This has changed the lives of the children here and you can see the sparkle in their eyes."

The cheque was presented by Richard Strudwick, head of human resources at Lloyds TSB Registrars, and Jon Buss, editor of the Herald, to pupils Rebecca Smith, Daniel Hughes, Emmie Shand, George Samuel, Jed McBride, Emily Moore, Spencer Hodge and Daisy Imbert. Also at the presentation were Georgina Pope, Sam Coleman, Kathryn Tourle and Tom Morgan.

Mr Buss said: "We are delighted to have played our part, along with our partners, Lloyds TSB Registrars, in giving this much-needed cash boost to West Park."

Mr Strudwick said: "We are very happy to support local schools. It is very important for us as a major local employer to put something back into the community."

The runner-up prize of 500 went to The Orchards Middle School in Nelson Road.
