What the proposals have in store

Over both the Regis Centre and Hothamton sites, the proposed schemes will provide:

n more than 18,500sq m/200,000sq ft of leisure and retail;

n 4,645sqm/50,000sq ft of community uses;

n 2,787sq m/30,000sq ft of offices;

n about 300 flats; and

n extensive landscaping.

The uses lined up for Hothamton include offices, a food store, a health centre, if the NHS agrees, and a 30-storey tower block of 180 flats. It is intended the entire current site between Queensway, Steyne Street and West Street will be redeveloped.

For the Regis Centre, the intention is to create a combined theatre/cinema complex, a ten-pin bowling alley and several bars, cafes and restaurants over two floors between the Place St Maur, Belmont Street and Clarence Road. Plans for a hotel are unlikely to be pursued.

Above them will be about 168 flats in a structure some seven storeys high to become the tallest along the seafront. More than 450 car parking spaces will be provided in all.
