Whatlington Christmas Pageant: The church was full to overflowing on Sunday, with every available seat taken and people standing out into the porch. It was lovely to see so many children taking part and in the congregation as well. The Pageant followed the established pattern, with little ‘angels’ suitably arrayed in the church and ‘Mary & Joseph’ entering as a carol was sung. The Advent candle for the fourth Sunday was lit by an angel at Kevin’s invitation.

As the organist finished the third carol everyone progressed outside, where several members of Battle Town Band were waiting to join us, we then processed to the small car park adjacent to the church where a glowing bonfire awaited. Further carols, with Band accompaniment followed, together with a short address from Kevin, reminding us of the true meaning of Christmas.

After this the Pageant progressed down the drive and along the road to Leeford Farm, where the Apthorp family kindly hosted us. The children enacted the Nativity scene in the barn and further carols were sung before the service drew to a close. Hot soup etc. was kindly provided by the Apthorp’s and a voluntary collection taken for church funds.

In all we estimate that there were some 120 plus people, adults and children joining us for this lovely traditional Christmas activity.

A reminder that there will be an early ‘Midnight Mass’ at Whatlington starting at 10pm and lasting for around 45 minutes. We warmly invite people to stay after the service and join us for a glass of wine and a mince pie.

There will not be a service on Christmas Day at Whatlington, there will however be a United Benefice service at Sedlescombe at 10.30am.

On Sunday December 27th the church service will be at 09.30 at Whatlington.
