Church News: Jeffrey Bridges writes: Sunday 13th December, Third in Advent

The usual 10.30am Family Service becomes our annual Carol Service this Sunday, still at 10.30am and followed with refreshments. The service will be taken by our friend Rev. Angela Cooke, there will be six well known carols, interspersed with Bible readings to tell the Christmas story. We warmly invite people to come and join with us for this popular Christmas service.

As an aside, when recently looking through some old records in the church I came across an old service register, quite by chance it opened at December 1966, 49 years ago. Looking at the third Sunday of Advent for that year Whatlington had an 08.00 Holy Communion, a Family service at 11.00am and then an Evensong at 6pm, how times have changed!

Good companions: 14 members of The Good Companions and two guests enjoyed Christmas lunch at Whatlington Village hall a week ago. A hot three course was served, together with wine throughout the meal. Soup was followed by chicken casserole, which Valerie & Rosemary had kindly prepared and cooked, accompanied by new potatoes, broccoli, peas & carrots. There was a choice of mouth watering desserts: fresh fruit salad, trifle, ice cream & mince pies, followed by coffee/tea & After Eight mints. We had sufficient raffle prizes to enable everyone to have a prize; including a bottle of champagne donated by Patricia. We thank Charlotte & Patricia, from the Village Hall Committee, for joining us for lunch as I know they are very busy people. Our next meeting will be on Wednesday 20th January when we will be visiting The Queen’s Head, Sedlescombe. Whilst writing could I please thank the committee of The Village Hall for all they have done to enhance the village hall to make it more welcoming for all the people who use it. PS Charlotte and Patricia, in their turn, would like to thank Hilda and The Good Companions for their kind hospitality and for a truly delicious lunch!
